Nursing Home Neglect & Abuse
Unfortunately, in US nursing homes, elder abuse is reported over one million times per year. Abuse may
include either physical, mental or sexual, or, simple neglect of an aged person's basic nutritional and/or
health needs. This number is expected to substantially increase as Americans age. Today, there are almost
35 million Americans over the age of 65 and in need of some type of assisted living.
General neglect can be a simple lack of nursing home staff interest in not providing for residents' basic needs
including water, food, and a clean and healthy environment. This form of neglect can also lead to more serious
forms of illnesses, diseases and medical conditions. Bed sores are a typical example of conditions that are
relatively easy to prevent but far too common in many nursing centers. Seniors can develop bed sores at a
high frequency due to inactivity, the thinning of skin, poor circulation, and malnutrition. This is a very
specialized legal area and requires an experienced nursing home neglect and abuse attorney. If you don't
have one, CTC can refer you to one in any of the 50 states.
